APPLICATION AND USE
Preparation: Follow the surface preparation instructions shown on the label of the finish or varnish to which the Polyurethane Matting Additive is being added.
Method: The level of gloss will decrease where the amount of Polyurethane Matting Additive is increased. See 'Mixing' for guidelines on addition levels. Apply the standard finish first and finish off with the mixed (matted) material as a last coat, or apply multiple coats until full opacity is achieved.
Hints Mixing Stir individual products prior to mixing. Mix part A (base) and part B (curing agent) of the Polyurethane Matting Additive (3:1 mix ratio by volume). Allow to stand for 5 minutes to allow entrapped air and gases to escape prior to mixing with reacted finish. Mix part A (base) and part B (curing agent) of the polyurethane that is to be matted. Allow to stand for 5 minutes to allow entrapped air and gases to escape. Add required amount of Polyurethane Matting Additive.
GUIDELINES ARE AS FOLLOWS:
2 parts mixed finish/varnish : 1 part mixed Polyurethane Matting Additive = Semi Gloss.
1 part mixed finish/varnish : 1 part mixed Polyurethane Matting Additive = Satin.
1 part mixed finish/varnish : 2 parts mixed Polyurethane Matting Additive = Matt.
Test applications are recommended before proceeding. The actual levels of Polyurethane Matting Additive required may vary somewhat from colour to colour. It should also be noted that the exact gloss level achieved will vary slightly with film build applied.
Thinner YTA006 Thinners No.9
Cleaner YTA006 Thinners No.9
Other: Brushed reduced gloss product may cure with an uneven gloss level if not applied with great care and attention.
Some Important Points: The addition of Polyurethane Matting Additive to a finish will have minimal effect on its colour or its application/overcoating/drying characteristics.
Polyurethane Matting Additive will provide a reduced mar-resistant finish and therefore should not be used on walkways etc.
When used with Perfection, the addition of Matting Additive will reduce opacity, hiding power, of the product, so it is important that the necessary number of coats of unmatted finish has been applied first.
As with all types of reduced-gloss coatings, the finish will not have the same stay-clean properties as a full-gloss coating. Product temperature should be minimum 15°C/59°F and maximum 35°C/95°F.
Ambient temperature should be minimum 5°C/41°F and maximum 35°C/95°F.
Substrate temperature should be minimum 5°C/41°F and maximum 35°C/95°F.
Compatibility/Substrates: Suitable for use with 2-component polyurethanes. Not suitable for use with acrylic based polyurethanes.
Application Methods: Brush, RollerTRANSPORTATION,STORAGE AND SAFETY INFORMATION
Storage GENERAL INFORMATION:
Exposure to air and extremes of temperature should be avoided. For the full shelf life of Polyurethane Matting Additive to be realised ensure that between use the container is firmly closed and the temperature is between 5°C/41°F and 35°C/95°F. Keep out of direct sunlight.
Polyurethane Matting Additive should be kept in securely closed containers during transport and storage.
Safety: GENERAL: Read the label safety section for Health and Safety Information, also available from our Technical Help Line.
Do not discard tins or pour paint into water courses, use the facilities provided. It is best to allow paints to harden before disposal.
